Week of October 27th


Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- This week we will continue learning about informational text features. We will begin reading the informational book, War of the Woods.

ELA- Students will be learning about conjunctions and writing an argumentative paragraph. They will write an argument either supporting loggers or environmentalists.

Math- This week we’ll continue learning a variety of strategies for solving multiplication problems with larger numbers. (Multiplication fast facts Retest Friday)

Science- We will learn how organisms cause change in their environment.

Social Studies- We will discuss the 13 original colonies in terms of their religion, government, and economy.

Week of October 20th


Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- This week we will begin learning about informational text features. We will be starting our new PBL “Tread Lightly on our Earth”

ELA- Students will finish writing a letter to an editor about the school’s new buddy bench. In addition, they will learn about complete sentences vs. fragments and run-ons. (Complete Sentences Test on Wednesday)

Math- This week we’ll continue learning a variety of strategies for solving multiplication problems with larger numbers. (Multiplication fast facts test Thursday)

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. Students will begin learning about organisms’ behavior in their environments. (Senses and Learned/Inherited Behaviors Test Thursday)

Social Studies- We will discuss the 13 original colonies in terms of their religion, government, and economy.

Week of October 13th


Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- This week we will finish reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We will discuss the plot of the story.  

ELA- Students will learn characteristics of a letter to an editor. They will begin writing a letter to an editor about the school’s new buddy bench. In addition, they will learn about complete sentences vs. fragments and run-ons.

Math- This week we’ll continue learning a variety of strategies for solving multiplication problems with larger numbers. It’s crucial for students to have multiplication facts memorized.

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. Students will be learning about animals’ senses and learned/inherited behaviors. (Senses and learned/inherited behaviors Test 10/22)

Social Studies
- We will discuss the 13 original colonies in terms of their religion, government, and economy.

Reading- This week we will finish reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We will discuss the plot of the story. (Wonder Vocabulary Test Friday) Parents are invited to come to the Buddy Bench Ceremony at 8:30am Friday.

ELA- In addition, they will learn how to use quotation marks. (Test on Quotation Marks Thursday October 9th)  

Math- This week we will focus on learning a variety of strategies for solving multiplication problems with larger numbers.

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. Students will be learning about animals’ senses.

Social Studies
- We will discuss the French and Spanish colonies in North America. Students will learn about their government, religion, economy, and lifestyle.

Reading- This week will continue reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

ELA- Students will be writing advice about bullying situations to the younger grades. In addition, they will learn how to use quotation marks. (Test on Quotation Marks Wednesday October 8th)

Math- This week we will focus on subtracting large numbers using a variety of strategies.  

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. (Test on Classification of Organisms Thursday)
Social Studies- We will continue to discuss the famous explorers. Explorer test will be on Wednesday, October 1st. (See Study Guide in Social Studies notebook) In addition, we will begin discussing the Columbian Exchange.

Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- This week will continue reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In addition, we will discuss story elements.

ELA- Students will be writing advice about bullying situations to the younger grades. In addition, they will learn how to use quotation marks.

Math- This week we will focus on adding and subtracting large numbers using a variety of strategies.  

Science- We will begin our unit on Animals. We will discuss how to classify animals.     

Social Studies- We will continue to discuss the famous explorers. Students will need to complete their Explorer Diary Project for homework. It will be due Friday. Explorer test will be on Wednesday, October 1st. (See Study Guide in Social Studies notebook)

Reading- This week will continue reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. In addition, we will discuss random acts of kindness.

ELA- Students will learn the friendly letter format.   

Math- This week we will focus on rounding numbers and comparing numbers. Test on Rounding Numbers Wednesday.

Science- We will review safety rules and steps to a scientific experiment. Test on Safety/steps to experiment Thursday. We will begin our unit on Animals.    

Social Studies- We will continue discussing the motivations for early exploration. In addition, we will learn about famous explorers.
