Week of December 15th


Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- Students will practice using their context clues to determine unfamiliar words in Christmas themed texts.

ELA- Students will begin writing their problem section and procedures section of their Action Plan.

Math- This week we’ll continue discussing comparing fractions and equivalent fractions.  

Science- Students will begin learning about electricity.

Social Studies- Students will continue learning about the Declaration of Independence. (Test on Declaration Friday)

Week of December 8th


Ride the Wave to Learning…

Reading- Students will participate in a Socratic Seminar to present their opinions on loggers vs. environmentalists. In addition, students will be tested on Socrates Vocabulary words on Thursday.

ELA- Students will finish writing a letter to King George the Third as either a loyalist or patriot. In addition, they will begin writing their problem section of their Action Plan.

Math- This week we’ll continue discussing comparing fractions and equivalent fractions.  

Science- Students will continue learning about light and the properties of light. (Light Test Friday)

Social Studies- Students will begin learning about the importance of the Declaration of Independence. In addition, they will learn the main ideas included in the Declaration of Independence.

Week of December 1st



Ride the Wave to Learning…


Reading- This week students will learn about paraphrasing text and presenting their findings about Green Inventions. In addition, they will learn about the Socratic Method to participate in a Socratic Seminar to present their opinions on loggers vs. environmentalists.


ELA- Students will learn the rules for using commas in their writing. In addition, students will be writing a letter to King George the Third as either a loyalist or patriot.


Math- This week we’ll begin discussing how to represent fractions, compare fractions, and placement of fractions on a number line.


Science- Students will continue learning about light and the properties of light.


Social Studies- Students will continue learning about the events that led to the American Revolution. (Test on Road to the Revolution Friday)

ELA- Students will learn the rules for using commas in their writing. In addition, students will be writing a letter to King George the Third as either a loyalist or patriot.

Math- This week we’ll continue practicing long division. (Test on Long Division Friday)

Science- Students will begin learning about light and the properties of light.

- Students will learn about slavery and indentured servants. (Test on Triangular Trade and Slavery Tuesday)  In addition, students will learn about the events that led to the American Revolution.

Science- Students will learn about the five distinct environments (polar regions, swamps, rivers and streams, deserts, and tropical rainforests). Test on Distinct Environments Friday

Social Studies
- Students will learn about slavery and indentured servants. (Test on Triangular Trade and Slavery next Tuesday)  In addition, students will learn about the events that led to the American Revolution.

ELA- Students will finish writing a letter to an editor about the school’s new buddy bench. In addition, they will learn about complete sentences vs. fragments and run-ons. (Complete Sentences Test on Wednesday)

Math- This week we’ll continue learning a variety of strategies for solving multiplication problems with larger numbers. (Multiplication fast facts test Thursday)

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. Students will begin learning about organisms’ behavior in their environments. (Senses and Learned/Inherited Behaviors Test Thursday)

Social Studies- We will discuss the 13 original colonies in terms of their religion, government, and economy.

Week of September 29th

Reading- This week will continue reading the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio.

ELA- Students will be writing advice about bullying situations to the younger grades. In addition, they will learn how to use quotation marks. (Test on Quotation Marks Wednesday October 8th)

Math- This week we will focus on subtracting large numbers using a variety of strategies.  

Science- We will continue our unit on Animals. (Test on Classification of Organisms Thursday)
Social Studies- We will continue to discuss the famous explorers. Explorer test will be on Wednesday, October 1st. (See Study Guide in Social Studies notebook) In addition, we will begin discussing the Columbian Exchange.
